Tangier Island

Sunday my work had a team building day, and we went to Tangier Island. I had always wanted to go, but had never been before so I was excited about the trip. We left out of Reedville, Va at Buzzard's Marina. Tangier is located on an island in a part of the Chesapeake Bay called the Lower Eastern Shore. It is made up of many small islands divided by marshes and small tidal streams. The islands are connected by wooden bridges. It has a population of 600 or so, and the island is 3 miles long, and 1 mile long. The folks who live there drive around mostly on golf carts or ride bikes. There are a few cars there, but apparently most of the people keep their cars in Maryland on the mainland. It's just the neatest little place.

This is the view we had of the island when we docked from our ferry

The ferry ride is an hour and a half from the marina in Reedville.

The men make their living crabbing and what not.

They have one school on the island from k-12th, and they have about 100 students lol. This is a picture of the school.

They have one grocery store on the island and this is it

One of the first things we did when we arrived was have lunch. We ate at Hilda Crockets, and had a all you can eat seafood meal with lots of yummy sides served family style at our table. This is a pic of where we ate

There were little graveyards everywhere... a lot of people had graves in the front yard of their homes.

Someone had this in their front yard and I thought it was really cute, and I might copy it.

I had a great time on the trip, and especially enjoyed checking out the ticket man who was a crew person on our ferry as well. Admit you think hes hot too.

We were all very tired after our trip and some enjoyed naps on the way back to Reedville, like one of my coworkers here

They have a couple of bed and breakfasts on the island. They are not fancy by any means, but I would love to spend one night on the island with Dave and hang out on the beach for a day. hint hint
