Dry sink redo... and a recap of an estate sale adventure....

Back in February I believe, there was an estate sale across the street.  We ended up with three great furniture pieces from it, as well as a few other small odds and ends.
I talked about the pieces in a previous post.  The first was this cool bluish green piece that sits in my living room.  The paint is crazy looking, but I love it, and it fits in good.

I got the blueish green piece the first day of the sale.  I was one of the first people in the house on day 1 of the 4 day sale, and this is what I grabbed right away.

For the next few days I continued to stalk a pie safe. I saw it daily, and prayed none would grab it until deal day.  Deal day was on a Monday when everything was slashed down.  My loverly husband and mother stood in line as I had to work that day, and grabbed up the pie safe for me.

It sits in our dining room as our wine cabinet.  I put some wine racks on the shelves, and store the wine glasses in there.  Super fun!

Also at this sale, my husband left with a dry sink.  Apparently it was a crazy good deal, and antique ones are really hard to find and expensive.  I wasn't sure what the heck we were were going to do with it, and it sat in the garage for a very long time.... Ok not that long in Giles household project time, but a good 6 months.
It had a lot of scratches on it, and I wasn't crazy about the wood stain finish.  I wanted it painted, and it took me forever to figure out what I wanted.  I also priced local companies that paint furniture, who claimed to be budget friendly, and was quoted between 300-500 to redo this.  I don't think so.  Over the 6 month course Dave and I worked on sanding it. Eventually, Dave primed it for me, and after I took my sweet time, I finally picked out some paint, in a stone grey color.  It cost about $65 to prime, paint, and put new hardware on. When all was said and done.  I have to say this dry sink that I had no clue what to do with, has become one of my favorite pieces in our house.

More birthday planning.

The kiddos said they were not crazy about Emily's birthday invitation, and I admit it looked a bit busy, so I scrapped it, and made another one tonight.  I am really digging it!  Don't know how to turn it sideways though, for the blog, so just turn your head and enjoy!

I am going to make some cupcakes for the party so I don't have to worry about ice cream or storing a cake. I have had my eye out for some cute favors but so far nothing has really caught my eye but I know with the end of summer sales something good should pop up soon.  We are going to grill out, and I figure I would just do a few easy side items to keep it busy.  The kids will be busy playing in the pool anyways. =)

A woe is me post.....

*There is just one more day left in July.  Where has summer gone?  I know we still have August to enjoy, but my mind is whirling in back to school mode.  I might as well do the supply shopping now, and then relax.

* We leave for Nags Head this Saturday. So, so, so needed right now.

* I turned 32.  No one at work remembered, which  kinda sucks when you have maybe 7 coworkers, and there is a birthday calendar on the break room door.  My buddy at work did remember the next day and took me out to lunch which was nice, but I have been down about the whole bday work blow off, and the fact that on my side of the family my parents were the only one who acknowledged by birthday.  I got taken to dinner, by Dave, who then picked a fight with me on the way there, so I didn't enjoy dinner.  Not trying to dog him, just keeping it real.  The fight was all my fault anyways.  Just sucks having a crappy day on a birthday.  Maybe this post will at least make someone else feel better then they have a crappy birthday, or maybe I am the only one this crap happens to.

* My husband got me a kayak which I love.  It was nice to take that out for a ride that evening after a crummy day at work, and what not.

* It was hard to find time to work out in July with swim meet schedules, and I learned I am a better person when I can work out.  I am making it a priority for my sanity, and so future blog posts will be a bit more uplifting.

Pool party planning has begun!

One thing I am working on planning, is Emily's 4th birthday party.  Her birthday isn't until September 16th, but Miss Emily put in a request for a pool party.  The pool is closed by then, so we are going to celebrate it a little early.  I know at that point I am going to be so busy with back to school things, so I am planning ahead right now. This morning I made her invites as you can see above.  This is also the most recent "scrapbooking"  I have done since I probably made my other girls back in February.  I also busted out my laptop, as my CM program is on there rather then my Mac.  CM now makes a program for Mac, so I need to look into that.  I thought the invite turned out cute.  I am picking up my proof from Costco before I go crazy and print what we need.

Anyways, we are going with a pool party theme.  I am trying to figure out if I want to do cup cakes rather then a cake, and I have a made a pinterest board for ideas.  I am debating about making said dessert or ordering it.   We will be grilling out there, and that's about all I have figured out right now, but I am planning a trip to Michael's soon to look for ideas..... I figure for favors I should be able to find some cool pool/beach stuff on sale soon since the stores will be switching over to fall.

Hello July

It's so hard to find time to blog anymore, but I don't want to throw in the towel.  Just be patient with me, as I attempt to make myself sit down to do this...

*Since my last post we are full into the swim team now.  My girls love it! Seriously the best thing we have done lately. They are pretty awesome swimmer, and Laura in particular, shows a crazy amount of promise apparently according to the coaches.  They are getting close to making city meet time, in which we will have to go on our family vacation a day later, but it's worth it.  Dave and I are looking into the year round swimming programs, and learning the ins and outs of that now.  We are basically going to do stroke school for the next year, and then maybe in another year or two venture  out in the team swimming year round stuff.... So cool to see them enjoy this.

* I am selling 31 and loving it.  I like getting products that I love for a discount, and sharing my obsession with people.  Plus it doesn't hurt to make a few bucks either.  What I have made has basically gone into the kids summer activities.

*Dave is loving his new position.  I like it too, especially when he has days as then he has every weekend off which is is amazing!  When he does evenings, that is rough, but I try to adjust my work schedule then, and we manage.   What I do love about it though is he's not on mid nights anymore and he is no longer a zombie.

*Have I mentioned how much I love summer?  We basically live at the pool,  When they are not practicing we are up there playing and hanging out.  Basically my home keeping goes out the window and we all live out of the laundry baskets it seems, but I just rather would be outside playing and enjoying the sunshine.  I do need a rainy day though to catch up on house stuff....

* I will attempt to blog weekly I think now. Don't hold me too it though....
* I am going to be 32 in a few days.  Lord have mercy.
